Bavaria, 28 June 2022 (TDI): Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the Group of Seven (G7) and impelled them to assist in ending Russia’s invasion by the end of the year.

The three days talk that began on Sunday was expected to be dominated by the discussion on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian President urged the G7 leaders to increase sanctions against Russia. Likewise, the leaders of G7 planned new sanctions and vowed to support Ukraine “as long as it takes”.

For instance, the world powers pronounced that they will take measures in the days and weeks ahead. As well as continue to seek new ways to isolate Russia from taking part in the global market and crack down on evasion.

The leaders of the G7 stated their determination in reducing Russia’s revenues, including from gold.

The Summit host and German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, stated that the G7 will continue in increasing pressure on Russia’s President, Vladimir Putin.

The G7 promised assistance to Ukraine in terms of financial, humanitarian, military, and diplomatic support for as long as it takes.

In his address to G7 leaders, the Ukrainian President further stated that it is not the time to negotiate with Russia.

G7 Summit agenda and remarks

The G7 revealed their ‘serious concern’ regarding the Russian nuclear missile transfer to Belarus.

Noteworthy, Putin met with Belarus President, Alexander Lukashenko recently whereby Lukashenko expressed concern over Lithuania and Poland’s aggressive, confrontational and repulsive policies. As a result, he requested assistance during the meeting.

In light of this, Putin stated that in a few months Russia will supply Iskander-M missile systems to Belarus.

Regarding the joint G7 statement, the leaders pledged to ‘explore new ways to isolate Russia from participating in the global market’ and crack down on evasions.

Part of the G7’s initial announcements was the $600 billion (€568 billion) infrastructure program aiding underdeveloped nations in combating climate change.

President Joe Biden made it clear that it is not charity or aid but an investment. Specifically meant to ‘deliver returns for everyone, including the American people and the people of all our nations’. He added that the investment will boost all of their economies.

The seven working sessions of the summit were set to focus on different topics. Namely, global economy, partnerships for developing countries, foreign and security policy, and sustainability. Together with food security, multilateralism, and digital transformation.

Most importantly, the German Presidency also invited leaders from Argentina, India, Indonesia, Senegal, and South Africa to partake in several working sessions during the summit.
