Islamabad, 3 October 2022 (TDI): President of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi has expressed grief and sorrow on the life losses in the Indonesia Stampede.

The President extended heartful condolences on Monday to the Indonesian Government and expressed his great sadness at the incident.

Moreover, he sent his sincere sympathies to the grieving families, the Indonesian government, and the Indonesian people.

In response to the President’s message, the Embassy of Indonesia also shared a message of gratitude to the President for his kind message of condolence and words of compassion for the victims of the deadly stampede.

The message of the Embassy further stated sadness that the tragedy occurred in an arena where people come to celebrate joyful sports like football and that it is a difficult time for the affected families who lost their loved ones in this tragic incident.

Indonesian Stampede

A stampede at an Indonesian football stadium has killed at least 125 people, making it one of the world’s deadliest stadium tragedies.

Several were also injured in the following of Arema FC’s losing to fierce opponents at a packed stadium in Malang, East Java, late on Saturday.

The incident occurred after police used tear gas on supporters who had overrun the pitch. As panic escalated, many rushed to the Kanjuruhan stadium exits, where many died from suffocation.

Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, the chairman of the Asian Football Confederation, stated in a statement that he was “deeply shocked and saddened to hear such tragic news coming out of football-loving Indonesia,” and his condolences to the victims, their families, and friends.

Notably, the FIFA Under-20 World Cup is scheduled to be in Indonesia in May and June of next year. Also, Indonesia is one of the three countries competing to host the Asian Cup, the continent’s equivalent of the Euros.
