Islamabad, 2 February 2024 (TDI): Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar held a telephone conversation with the President of Maldives, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
The purpose of the telephone call was to follow up on the discussions during their meeting of 2 December 2023 on the sidelines of the 28th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in Abu Dhabi.
The two sides also expressed their desire to work for peace and development in South Asia through greater regional cooperation.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has received assurances of support from the Pakistani Government in addressing the urgent development needs of the Maldives.
On the other hand, Anwaar-ul Haq Kakar, the 8th caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan, conveyed this reassurance during a recent telephone conversation with the President.

The leaders discussed strategies to strengthen the bilateral ties between their nations, focusing on key priorities and exploring opportunities for increased cooperation on the international stage.
In their conversation, the caretaker Prime Minister expressed his backing for the Maldives’ endeavors to combat the impacts of climate change. It is noteworthy that diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Pakistan were established on July 26, 1966.
