President of Costa Rica visits UAE

Abu Dhabi, 7 December 2021(TDI): The President of Costa Rica Carlos Alvarado Quesada visited Abu Dhabi and met with various authorities of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). During those meetings, subjects such as diplomatic and commercial relations, and eco-tourism were addressed.

Firstly, President of Costa Rica Carlos Alvarado met with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Abdulaziz Al Ghurair. Furthermore, the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and industry assisted with other members of the chamber.

Both sides talked about how Costa Rica can be a commercial hub between Central America and the Caraibes with the UAE. Similarly, the UAE will be the commercial hub that will permit Costa Rica access to the middle east, North Africa, and South Asia.

Secondly, President Carlos Alvarado met with Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Qasimi, ruler of the Ras Al-Khaimah (RAK). The two talked about diplomatic and commercial ties with a big emphasis on eco-tourism.

In that sense, Costa Rica and UAE are allies in the promotion of sustainable tourism. For instance, both countries are globally known for their touristic activities and this meeting took this into consideration. Moreover, Both parties tackled also how the COVID-19 pandemic affected tourism, and how to improve and boost the sector again.

 

Costa Rica and the United Arab Emirates 

The United Arab Emirates and Costa Rica established diplomatic relations in 2010. However, people to people relationship was the interaction that both countries through their citizens had.

In November of 2017, the embassy of Costa Rica opened its doors and is located in Abu Dhabi. A year later, in August 2018  the Embassy of the United  Arab Emirate opened its doors in Costa Rica. Their areas of work are sustainable development, renewable energy, and investment reciprocity.

Finally, similarly with Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Qasimi and Abdulaziz Al Ghurair, they get to a consensus on the importance of improving connectivities between their nations.
