Tirana, 8 September 2022 (TDI): President of the Republic of Albania Bajram Begaj met with the UN Resident Coordinator to Albania Fiona McCluney. Both recognized the effective collaboration between Albania and the United Nations community of agencies.
The cooperation is for Sustainable Development in accordance with the country’s EU integration agenda, for the role of Albania for peace in UNSC, and for the collaborative work ahead.

The discussions about the excellent relationship between Albania and the UN took place throughout the meeting. The President of Albania also appreciated the UN agencies’ support of Albania’s plan for sustainable development.
Moreover, the two sides discussed Albania’s contribution as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the period 2022-2023.
Addressing international crises, and promoting peaceful conflict resolution, collaboration, and mediation are goals for Albania in the UNSC. Moreover, Albania and the United States are co-penholders at the UNSC on Ukraine issues.
United Nations in Albania
Albania joined the United Nations in 1955 and has participated in several UN peacekeeping operations. In 2007, Albania became one of eight countries worldwide to pilot the UN Delivering as One (DaO) reform.
Since then, the UN in Albania collaborating closely with the Government of Albania (GoA) and other partners, such as civil society, academia, and the private sector.
The main goals are to combat poverty, advance human rights, and fundamental freedoms, strengthen the rule of law, and support economic and social reforms.
19 UN agencies are represented in the current Albania-United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2022–2026. The agencies also bring their collective experience to bear on Albania’s development objectives.
The main objectives are Albania’s accession to the European Union (EU) and the 2030 Agenda.
Furthermore, it also includes Albania’s nationalized SDG goals, with an emphasis on effective response and recovery from the COVID-19 epidemic, good governance and rule of law, public service provision, and excellent health and education.
