President Alvi urges International companies to invest in Pakistan

Islamabad, 15 November 2023 (TDI): President of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi, on Tuesday, met with a visiting delegation of Oxford Alumni at Aiwan-e-Sadr. The visit aimed at discussing the prospects of doing business and investment in Pakistan. 

While speaking with the delegation, President Dr. Arif Alvi stressed that international investors and companies should explore the opportunities for business and investment in Pakistan and benefit from the country’s improved business climate. 

Furthermore, he stated that Pakistan offers tremendous investment opportunities across diverse sectors of its economy. He also highlighted that Pakistan is an emerging market that is growing every year. 

During the meeting, the President informed the participants that Pakistan is focusing on improving its economy making efforts to enhance the export sector, and exploring new markets for its products. 

He added that Pakistan offers an investment-friendly environment and has improved its ease of doing business ranking in recent years.  

He said that foreign investors should explore business opportunities in Pakistan in different sectors of the economy, specifically in Information Technology. 

The president also briefed the visiting delegation about the establishment of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) by Pakistan earlier this year. 

SIFC aims to facilitate and encourage foreign investment in Pakistan and to provide a window facility to foreign investors.

The President expressed that foreign investors should invest in Pakistan’s Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and Special Technology Zones (STZs) and to benefit from the tax incentives offered by the government 

Moreover, the President highlighted Pakistan’s trained human resources stating that 3.5 million trainings had been imparted since 2018. 

Training is provided under the Prime Minister’s Digital Skills Training Program “DigiSkills” in the field of IT to equip youth and women with the latest IT skills. 

The president said that Pakistan was focused on increasing the number of quality and skilled graduates, particularly in IT, besides increasing the quantum of online education. 

The visiting delegation was led by Haseeb Ahmed and comprised of Oxford graduates from different geographical and business backgrounds.
