Istanbul, 16 August 2021 (TDI): On August 15, President Dr. Arif Alvi and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan attended the launching ceremony of the first PN MILGEM-class corvette, PNS Babur (F-280) for Pakistan at the Istanbul Military Shipyard. The first lady Mrs. Samina Alvi launched the ship with prayers.
President Alvi said that both the countries wanted peace stability and development in the respective regions. He added that both the countries had been further strengthening their cooperation especially in defense to face newly emerging threats and common challenges and the timely completion of the project testified it true. The project of MILGEM-class corvettes would further increase the defense cooperation between the two brotherly countries.
President Alvi also appreciated the continuous support of Istanbul on Kashmir Issue and assured Pakistan’s staunch support to Turkey on Cyprus issue.
