Islamabad (TDI): Poland’s Ambassador to Pakistan Maciej Pisarski on Tuesday highlighted the historic and cultural ties between the two nations, tracing back over a century.
He made these remarks while addressing an event to celebrate Poland’s Independence Day and Armed Forces Day in Islamabad.
The event was attended by Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Members of the National Assembly, and Senate, and Representatives of the Federal and Provincial Authorities.
CEO of the Diplomatic Insight Group (DIG) Muhammad Asif Noor, members of the diplomatic community, and celebrated mountaineers from both countries also attended the event.

During his address, the Ambassador emphasized Poland’s commitment to standing with Ukraine in its defence, stressing the global importance of peace and sovereignty.
Other than politics, the ambassador also maintained that the two countries share a special connection due to their love for mountains. He also highlighted the fascination for the Northern Areas of Pakistan, where Polish climbers have long joined with Pakistani counterparts in historic feats.
Poland—Pakistan Partnership in Trade and Investment
The Ambassador pointed out that the bilateral trade between the two nations has been gradually increasing and currently is just a shade below $1 billion, with the European Union being Pakistan’s largest export partner under the seized GSP Plus trade facility.
He lauded Polish energy companies Orlen and Exalo Drilling for the successful exploration of Pakistan’s gas sector especially Sindh province which has cemented economic cooperation relations between the two countries.

The Ambassador also informed about the results of the recent Polish trade mission to Pakistan organized by the Embassy within the GreenEvo program which presented young Polish entrepreneurs and their eco and smart technologies.
“Some of the begun conversations during this mission are ongoing,” he said especially to tackling climate change.
A Cultural and Mountaineering Legacy
The event also exhibited the achievements of Polish climbers, including footage from recent Polish gliding expeditions over K2.
In a special segment, the Ambassador paid tribute to the time-honoured relationship between Polish and Pakistani climbers. He also honoured legendary Pakistani climbers, particularly Sabir Muhammad who was the first Pakistani to ascend Mount Everest and Sirbaz Khan first Pakistani to sum up fourteen eight-thousanders. Both were invited special guests they were awarded as friends and cooperating partners with Polish climbers in particular.

Ambassador Pisarski also added that several streets in Islamabad may perhaps be named with the name of Air Commodore Władysław Turowicz, his wife Zofia Turowicz who helped to build the Pakistani Air Force and trained pilots. He added that successful people of their generation defined an “enduring nexus” between the two countries.
Poland’s Role in Global Diplomacy
According to the Ambassador, Poland is ready to take up the presidency of the European Union beginning from January 1, 2025, and increase its role in diplomacy and multilateral relations.
He wished to see future cooperation between Pakistan in the United Nations Security Council pending success and Positive cooperation history like; International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief.
