PM Welcomes Turkmenistan as “Special Guest” at SCO Meeting

Islamabad (TDI): On the sideline of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of Government (CHG) meeting, PM Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a meeting with Mr. Rashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan in Islamabad.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif warmly welcomed Turkmenistan’s participation in the SCO CHG Meeting as a “Special Guest” and reaffirmed Pakistan’s historic and strong ties with Turkmenistan.

He conveyed his best wishes to the Turkmen leadership and emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral relations through increased high-level exchanges.

The Prime Minister highlighted key areas of cooperation, particularly in trade, energy, and connectivity, which hold immense potential for both nations.

He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to working closely with Turkmenistan to enhance collaboration in these sectors for the mutual benefit of both countries.

During the meeting, Mr. Rashid Meredov extended the best wishes of Turkmenistan’s leadership to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and praised Pakistan’s successful organization of the SCO CHG Meeting.

He expressed Turkmenistan’s unwavering commitment to deepening ties with Pakistan and building a stronger partnership across various fields.

The discussion underscored the need to enhance the Pakistan-Turkmenistan relationship by exploring new avenues for cooperation, especially in energy projects such as the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline.

Both leaders agreed to continue working closely to realize the full potential of their longstanding ties.
