Gwadar, 5 August 2024 (TDI): The New Gwadar International Airport is likely to become operational on August 14, with all preparations nearly complete.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to oversee the soft launch of this major project.
A special Pakistan International Airlines flight from Karachi is scheduled to be the first to land at the new airport, marking a historic moment for the region.
Constructed at an estimated cost of 54.98 billion rupees, the airport features runways built to global standards, capable of accommodating large aircraft such as the Airbus A380.

The Gwadar International Airport is an important project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and represents a major milestone in the collaboration between China and Pakistan.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has constructed the airport in partnership with Chinese experts, according to media reports.
Presently, only four percent of the operational section remains incomplete.
Other development projects related to the airport are likely to be completed by December 2025.
The New Gwadar International Airport is set to boost the region’s connectivity and economic development, acting as key infrastructure project for Pakistan’s growing aviation industry.
With a total investment of about 1.62 billion yuan (220 million million) and a footprint of about fifteen hectares, the airport’s one-stop maintenance base aims to leverage the policy advantages to expand the aircraft maintenance market.
It aims to become an intelligent, high-level, and one-stop aircraft maintenance platform serving the international market.
The construction of the New Gwadar International Airport began in 2019.
The development of the airport is likely to significantly improve the quality of life for people in Balochistan. It will have a considerable impact on the economic development of Gwadar and surrounding regions.
