PM Shehbaz, Indonesian President Discuss Strengthening Ties

Cairo (TDI): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto on the sidelines of the D-8 Summit in Cairo.

The Prime Minister congratulated Prabowo on his appointment as President and engaged in discussions on a broad array of mutual interests, including political, trade, and economic issues, as well as multilateral cooperation.

Noting the significance of regular high-level interaction between the two nations, both sides agreed to remain in close contact to maintain the momentum in bilateral ties with a special emphasis on further deepening economic and commercial relations.

PM Shehbaz said that Indonesia was a reliable trade partner of Pakistan, especially as palm oil supplier, as the country relies on imports to meet its vegetable oil needs.

Emphasizing Pakistan’s strong commitment to engaging with ASEAN and its member nations, he noted Islamabad’s appreciation for Indonesia’s backing in achieving Sectoral Partner Status in ASEAN and membership of the ASEAN Regional Forum.

He said that Pakistan, with Indonesia’s support, looks forward to becoming a Full Dialogue Partner of ASEAN.

The PM also invited President Prabowo Subianto to visit Pakistan, which was graciously accepted.

Both leaders reaffirmed their firm support for the Palestinian cause, urging a ceasefire in Gaza and a comprehensive resolution that establishes an independent and sovereign State of Palestine with pre-1967 borders and Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
