Islamabad (TDI): Prime Minister Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif will be attending the two day summit of 17th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in Baku, Azerbaijan happening from July 3-4, 2025.
The theme of this year’s annual summit is “New ECO Vision for a Sustainable and Climate Resilient Future.”
“During the Summit, the Prime Minister will share Pakistan’s perspective on key regional and global challenges, reaffirm Pakistan’s commitment to the ECO Vision 2025, and advocate for enhanced intra-regional trade, transport connectivity, energy cooperation, and sustainable development,” as detailed in a statement by the Foreign Office.

“He will also hold bilateral meetings with other ECO leaders on the sidelines of the Summit to discuss matters of mutual interest”, according to the Foreign Office of Pakistan,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, official statement by the ECO read, “The Summit will be attended by the ECO Heads of States/Government, Ministers, ECO Observers, Special Guests from non-ECO countries and heads of international organizations to achieve development and prosperity through fragile economic integration.”
The Summit will feature a dynamic and inclusive ECO Week, held from July 1–4, 2025, across multiple cities in Azerbaijan.
The ECO Youth Forum with its thematic focus on “Enhancing the Role of Youth for Building a Sustainable and Climate-Resilient Future” will be held in Aghdam on July 1, meanwhile the ECO Women Forum focused on “Enhancing the Role of Women for Building a Sustainable and Climate-Resilient Future” will convene in Lachin on July 2.

In addition, the 6th Business Forum will gather business leaders and investors in Fuzuli on July 2, 2025, under the theme of “Investment and Trade Promotion as a Catalyst for Sustainable Development in the ECO Region.”
The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) was established in 1985 by Iran, Turkey and Pakistan. It succeeded Regional Cooperation for Development (RCD), which was founded in 1964 to promote cooperation among the three Member States.
In 1992, the organization welcomed seven more members which included Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Afghanistan.
The 16th ECO summit was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan November 9, 2023, and attended by the-caretaker prime minister Anwarul Haq Kakar.
Recently in December, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar signed a charter for research into clean and renewable energy sources at the ECO’s 28th Meeting of the Council of Ministers.
