PM Pays Tribute to Armed Forces, Martyrs

Islamabad, 6 September 2024 (TDI): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif commemorated Defence and Martyrs’ Day, reflecting on the historic courage and sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces who repelled Indian aggression in 1965.

In his message, Prime Minister Sharif underscored that nearly six decades later, Pakistan’s armed forces continue to embody the same vigilance, professional excellence, and preparedness that characterized the “Spirit of September.”

This spirit, he noted, symbolizes resistance and resilience.

“Today, we observe Defence and Martyrs’ Day to honor the valiant soldiers who, despite overwhelming odds, defended our nation and defeated the enemy,” the Prime Minister stated.

He praised the armed forces for their role in thwarting enemy designs and ensuring Pakistan’s sovereignty.

Highlighting the courage of the soldiers and the enduring spirit of their families, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized that the nation remains committed to defending its territorial integrity with modern combat capabilities.

He expressed gratitude to the families of the Shuhada for their resilience and strength, which continue to inspire the nation.

The Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s stance on resolving conflicts through dialogue and cooperation rather than confrontation.

He lamented the ongoing Kashmir dispute as an impediment to regional development and called for its resolution in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and UN Security Council resolutions.

He also urged efforts to combat terrorism originating from neighboring regions for the common good.

Message of Hope

On this solemn occasion, Prime Minister Sharif offered a message of hope and resolve, urging the nation to draw inspiration from its past victories and to confront contemporary challenges with the same resilience.

He emphasized the importance of the Azm-e-Istehkam initiative under the revised National Action Plan to eradicate terrorism.

He concluded with a prayer for the martyrs and their families, urging the nation to uphold the Spirit of September and strive for a prosperous Pakistan.
