PM Hosts Dinner, Highlights Economic Progress

-

Islamabad, 10 September 2024 (TDI): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday hosted a dinner for parliamentarians from various political parties, thanking them for their cooperation in government affairs.

He highlighted the recent economic progress, noting that inflation had slowed to 9.6% in August 2024, a development he attributed to effective government measures.

“The economic experts are predicting a further decline in the inflation rate this month, which is good news for the nation,” the Prime Minister said, recalling that in 2018, the government had left with a single-digit inflation rate.

He attributed the current economic progress to efforts initiated by his government in April 2022 to avert a default, stating that these measures had stabilized the economy and set it on a path to growth.

The dinner was attended by members of the National Assembly and Senate from allied parties.

Relief for Public

The prime minister reiterated his commitment to easing the challenges faced by the people, stressing that meaningful development could not be achieved without improving the lives of ordinary citizens.

Addressing concerns over power tariffs, he assured that the government was taking steps to provide relief to low-income segments of society.

He also mentioned that a process of rightsizing and downsizing in government offices had begun to reduce expenditures.

Prime Minister Shehbaz underscored the importance of political stability and policy continuity, urging all political forces to come together to steer the country out of its economic challenges.

The prime minister also remarked on the resurgence of terrorism in certain parts of the country, noting that while it had largely been eradicated under the leadership of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, efforts would be renewed to eliminate it once again.
