PM Shehbaz Hails Progress in Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan Cooperation

Islamabad (TDI): A delegation from Kyrgyzstan, led by the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Edil Baisalov, called on Pakistan’s Prime Minister. The delegation was in Islamabad to attend the 5th session of the Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan Inter-Governmental Commission.

The IGC framework was established to strengthen bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors. PM Shehbaz welcomed the delegation and expressed satisfaction over the successful convening of the 5th IGC.

He appreciated the signing of the Protocol and several Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) between the two countries, calling them important steps towards enhancing trade, energy collaboration, connectivity, and people-to-people exchanges.

He also reiterated Pakistan’s will to implementing the decisions taken during the IGC and stressed the importance of timely follow-up to translate agreements into tangible outcomes.

The Kyrgyz delegation appreciated the efforts of Pakistan in fostering closer bilateral ties and expressed confidence that the outcomes of the IGC will lead to deeper and more result-oriented cooperation.

Earlier, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Power Division and Energy, Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, while speaking at the IGC session, expressed concern that the bilateral trade volume has declined significantly, from USD 11.2 million in 2022-23 to USD 5.18 million in 2024-25.

“We acknowledge the pressing need to revitalize our trade engagement and reaffirm our shared aspiration to elevate bilateral trade upto USD 100 million,” he said.

In his talk, the minister also cited Kyrgyzstan’s offer of access to the At-Bashi Logistics Center for Pakistan’s National Logistics Corporation (NLC) as a commendable example of enterprise-level cooperation.
