Beijing/Quito, 1 September 2021 (TDI): The President of China, Xi Jinping, has a phone conversation with Ecuadorian President, Guillermo Lasso, on Monday. During the conversation, Xi Jinping stressed the preparedness of Beijing for pragmatic cooperation with Ecuador, which will bring opportunities for people of both countries.
China also assured its support to Ecuador in the anti-COVID fight and highlighted the role of Ecuador in standing against the politicization of the COVID-19 pandemic. On which, the President of Ecuador thanked the Chinese President for assisting his country during the pandemic by supplying vaccines.
Further, the two sides discussed effective bilateral cooperation in various areas, such as trade and investment. Xi mentioned Ecuador as a significant ally of China in the Belt and Road Initiative. The other side regarded China as an important strategic partner state for Ecuador.
