Beijing/Doha, 4 September 2021 (TDI): On Thursday, Wu Jianghao, Assistant Foreign Minister of China, had a phone conversation with Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi, the Deputy Head of the Afghan Taliban’s Political Office in Doha. The two sides shared their concerns on the condition and issues of Kabul. During the discussion, China has announced that it would keep its embassy in Afghanistan and will assist the country amid the humanitarian crisis and the pandemic.
While commenting on the changes in Afghanistan, the Deputy Foreign Minister said that China has always remained in favor of free and sovereign Afghanistan, and now the time has come that once again the land of Afghans will be ruled by the Afghan people. He also reminded the historical friendship between the two states and assured increased cooperation of his country with Kabul.
Abdul Salam Hanafi also agreed that Beijing is a loyal partner of Kabul and stressed the willingness of the Afghan Taliban in promoting diplomatic ties with China and partnering in BRI. Lastly, the Deputy Head guaranteed that the territory of Afghanistan will not be used against its neighboring country and the security of the Chinese staff in Afghanistan.
