Peshawar's BRT shortlisted in Top 5 finalists for the 2021-2022 WRI

Islamabad, 1 July 2022 (TDI): Peshawar’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) has been shortlisted as part of the five finalists for the 2021-2022 World Resources Institute (WRI), that is, the Ross Center Prize for Cities Award.

The finalists were announced at the meeting of the World Urban Forum, held recently on Thursday. The event occurred at the 11th World Urban Forum in Katowice, Poland.

In addition to this, the theme of this year’s cycle was “Thriving Together in Turbulent Times”. Furthermore, submissions from around 260 projects from 155 cities within 65 countries were tested for the prestigious award.

The winner of the 2021-2022 WRI Ross Center Prize for Cities Award is expected to be announced in December 2022. Therefore, the winner will receive a grand prize of $250,000 and the four runners-up will receive $25,000 each.

The other four Finalists include Todos al Parque (Barranquilla, Colombia), Participatory Housing, and Urban Development in Iloilo City (Iloilo City, The Philippines).

Also, The Urban Wage Employment Initiative – MUKTA (Odisha State, India), and The 15-Minute City (Paris, France).

The finalists were selected through a rigorous selection process and the criteria included the extent to which submissions displayed big, innovative ideas, and novel approaches. Together with a life-changing impact on people’s lives, mindsets, and behaviors.

TansPeshawar

TransPeshawar was established or registered formally with the Security Exchange Commission of Pakistan in 2017, February 9.

Therefore, it has the responsibility of implementing, operating, managing, and maintaining projects assigned by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Urban Mobility Authority (KPUMA).

Its aims include providing exceptional and best possible transport services to the citizens of Peshawar as well as KPK. Along with providing a safe, convenient, economical, reliable, time-efficient, and swift public transport system for Peshawar.

Most importantly, Peshawar’s BRT was awarded the International Gold Standard Service Status. Noteworthy, only six countries worldwide have received the BRT Gold Standard Service Award.
