Islamabad, 28 August 2024 (TDI): The August 28 national strike has been opposed by the Pakistan Business Forum (PBF), which calls on traders to pay their taxes, which are crucial to the nation’s economy.
Secretary General of Punjab and PBF Spokesperson Arif Ehsan Malik criticized the government’s strategy while highlighting the significance of raising tax revenue.
Malik criticized the government’s practice of requiring between Rs 30,000 and Rs 60,000 per month in advance tax notices to dealers who are either registered or unregistered. Considering that the majority of store owners cannot afford such massive taxes, he called this harassment.
Although only a small levy was promised, Malik said, “We strongly condemn the FBR’s demands for much more.”

PBF urged the government to examine these advance tax notices and voiced concerns about them. PBF is submitting a letter to the chairman of the FBR asking for an update on these evaluations. Malik also mentioned how Pakistan’s slow internet speeds are a problem for independent contractors.
