Paris, 8 August 2024 (TD): India defeated Spain 2-1 to secure a bronze medal in men’s hockey at the Paris Olympics on Thursday.
This is India’s second consecutive bronze and 13th medal overall in Hockey at the Games. Once a dominant force, India won six gold medals in a row from 1928 to 1956.
The star of the show was skipper Harmanpreet Singh who scored two out of three goals for his side. Goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, who stopped 16 of Spain’s 15 shots across four quarters, was another hero.
Both sides attacked each other from the word go. Spain scored first when their captain Marc Miralles put a penalty shot past Sreejesh in the 18th minute. They remained in the lead till the end of the first half.

However, Harmanpreet levelled the score in the first three minutes of the second half with a successful penalty corner.
The game got even more intense towards the end of the second half as several players from both sides were helped out of the field after collisions
Spain dominated possession in the second half and made multiple attempts towards closing minutes, but Sreejesh stood tall, helping India to win their second consecutive bronze at the Games.
