Paraguay hold multilateral talks in High-level week of UNGA

New York, 1 October 2022 (TDI): The Permanent Representative of Paraguay to the UN held multilateral talks in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA)’s High-level Week. The officials of the Paraguayan Foreign Office were also there for numerous meetings.

The Paraguayan representatives accompanied the President of the Republic of Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benitez, who also delivered a speech at the UNGA’s session.

President Benitez talked about upholding fundamental freedoms, peaceful resolution of conflicts, and dignified living conditions. The Paraguayan President also focused on the impacts of Covid-19 on Latin America.

Furthermore, he highlighted the commitments that were made by the international community to compensate Latin America in the post-pandemic years.

The President of Paraguay, Benitez met with the President of Guatemala, Alejandro Giammattei. The two sides focused on the policies of economic recovery. Moreover, they also discussed the areas of international cooperation.

President Benitez talked about the important issues at the Meridian International Center. He presented opportunities for business and trade in Paraguay. He also invited international investors to Paraguayan soil for foreign direct investment.

Meeting with the US President

The Paraguayan President along with the First Lady of Paraguay, Silvano Abdo Benitez met the President of the United States, Joe Biden. The First Lady of the US, Jill Biden was also there. President Benitez was invited to attend a ceremony at the American Museum of Natural History.

Multilateral Diplomacy with UN Officials

The President of Paraguay interacted with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The Paraguayan side stressed the completion of commitments agreed in the UN Charter. Furthermore, the Paraguayan President also stressed the strengthening of multilateral diplomacy.

Julio Arriola also held a separate meeting with the Deputy Secretary-General of the UN Office of Counter Terrorism (UNOCT). During the meeting, the strengthening of the partnership between the UNOCT and Paraguay was stressed.

The Paraguayan Foreign Minister, Julio Arriola also talked about important issues with the Administrator of the UN Development Program (UNDP), Achim Steiner. The meeting with Administrator Steiner stressed the future development projects in Paraguay.

Trade Agreement with Ecuador

The Foreign Minister of Paraguay, Julio Cesar Arriola, held bilateral talks with the Foreign Minister of Ecuador, Juan C. Holguin. The meeting focused on strengthening economic relations.

Paraguay and Ecuador signed an MoU for the enhancement of trade and develop economic relations.
