Asuncion, 11 May 2022 (TDI): Paraguay and Azerbaijan delegates held the first political consultations meeting between the two countries.
They organized the meeting in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two states in 2015. They held the meeting in the Benigno López Palace of the National Foreign Ministry of Paraguay in Asuncion.
The Paraguayan delegation was led by the Deputy Minister of Economic Relations and Integration, Ambassador Raúl Cano.
Meanwhile, Elnur Mammadov, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, led the Azerbaijani delegation. Likewise, the President of PETROPAR, Denis Lichi, participated in the meeting.
Moreover, the meeting was part of Paraguay’s foreign policy of multiplication of alliances and a greater projection of Paraguay in the world.
Additionally, the delegations evaluated joint business possibilities, specifically in the area of oil and gas as well as oil derivatives. Both parties agreed that PETROPAR technicians shall hold meetings with their Azerbaijani peers in the near future.
Meanwhile, they addressed various issues of the bilateral and multilateral agenda between both countries. They highlighted the good level of bilateral relations in the political and economic-commercial realm.
In addition, they also discussed the possibility of increased ties in other fields, including culture, tourism, and sports cooperation.
Furthermore, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov continued his agenda of activities with meetings with the authorities of the National Congress. Also, he met with the members of the Paraguay-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Friendship Commission.
Paraguay-Azerbaijan Relations
Paraguay and Azerbaijan established diplomatic relations in April 2004. Moreover, the two countries enjoy operation inter-parliamentary ties.
In 2014, the inter-parliamentary friendship group between Azerbaijan and Paraguay was established in the National Congress of Paraguay. Parliamentary delegations of both countries have visited each other several times.
Furthermore, Paraguay supports Azerbaijan’s territorial sovereignty over the Nagorno-Karabakh region. In addition, the two countries support each other in the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, and other multilateral organizations.
