Ramallah, 30 November 2021 (TDI): Recently, the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) condemned the agreement between Israel and Morocco. It lays the foundation for security cooperation, intelligence sharing, and future arms sales.
The memorandum of understanding between Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz and his Moroccan counterpart Abdellatif Loudiyi was signed on Wednesday. In Rabat, the Israeli Defense Minister attended to one of the Arab states that normalized ties last year.
As Morocco chairs the Al-Quds Committee, authorities highlighted it was not adequate to take this dangerous step. Therefore, the agreement can be used in light of the racist measures practiced by Israel against the Palestinian people. Furthermore, the PLO stated that Israel showed its disregard of all peace agreements, its rejection of negotiations, and the two-state solution in its practices.
Moreover, PLO’s statement added that “the continued settlement and forced displacement of occupied Jerusalem, the gradual annexation of Palestinian lands, and the prejudice to the Arab and Islamic identity of Jerusalem and its sanctities” were reasons why Morocco should not have signed the agreement.
According to the PLO Executive Committee, this agreement constitutes a departure from the Arab League summits and regional peace initiatives. Likewise, it violates the Arab consensus and the Arab Peace Initiative, so it results harmful to Arab national security.
Finally, the PLO Executive Committee claimed Morocco rethink its priorities as a country and choose the right way. In that sense, the statement urged Morocco to cancel this agreement. The officials of the organization said that the Arab country will not approve any type of association with harmful practices. Furthermore, they highlighted that it is unacceptable in the context of continuing occupation and expropriation of Palestinian lands, as well as the human rights violations reported by the UN and NGOs.
