Islamabad, 6 July 2022 (TDI): The State of Palestine has repudiated the deliberate targeting of Palestinian journalists by Israeli occupation troops on May 11, 2022.
Although the US administration swiftly denounced the murder of Abu Akleh and demanded a comprehensive investigation and full accountability, it has chosen not to intervene and conduct its own probe.
As a result, Israel’s targeted execution of journalists witnessed the hurt of Ali Sammoudi and Shireen Abu Akleh killed.
In light of this, they viewed the incident involving both of these two journalists as “tragic circumstances” rather than deliberate war crimes.
Abu Akleh, 51, lost her life while filming Israeli army incursions in the northern West Bank city of Jenin. The killing of Abu Akleh occurred when she was standing with other journalists. She was donning a press vest.
In a statement, the Palestinian leadership expressed its condemnation of the assassination. Thus, the leaders held the Israeli occupation accountable.
Targeted journalist killings by Israeli forces
Shireen Abu Akleh and other journalists were deliberately targeted by Israeli occupation forces. This is according to the context of the crime, the General Prosecutor of the State of Palestine’s forensic investigation, and a number of independent investigations.
According to the State of Palestine, there is no amount of ambiguity or politicization that can absolve the murderers, excuse the act, or conceal the reality.
Israel’s long-standing impunity will only become more entrenched as a result of this whitewashing.
This continues to violate the rights of the Palestinian people. It also endangers the security and lives of Palestinian journalists.
Additionally, it will be detrimental to the security of journalists around the world.
Therefore, the State of Palestine will keep up its efforts at the international level in its pursuit of justice for Shireen Abu Akleh and all Palestinian victims.
This will bring those who gave orders and provided cover for this well-established criminal pattern accountable for their crimes. This will also include the International Criminal Court as well.
