Dushanbe, 16 September 2021 (TDI): On the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan had a meeting with Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan.
During the meeting, both parties discussed matters of bilateral and regional concern. It includes the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Both leaders agreed to continue strengthening bilateral relations between Islamabad and Nur-Sultan.
The members of SCO are expected to gather in Tajikistan on September 16 for the Summit. Emomali Rahmon, President of Tajikistan, will chair the session. The Eurasian security bloc will include China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. The participants will focus on the regional consequences of the United States military pullout from Afghanistan and the Taliban’s return to power. According to sources, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Russian President Vladimir Putin are expected to attend the Summit via video conference.
This is the first time SCO Summit is going to take place in a hybrid manner. The group has represented itself as a multilateral organization from its founding 20 years ago. It has focused its efforts on the “three evils” of Separatism, Extremism, and Terrorism.
