NEW YORK CITY (TDI): Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a bilateral meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Underscoring the close fraternal relations between the two countries, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to further strengthen and deepen these ties, particularly focusing on enhancing cooperation in the economic and defense sectors.
Shehbaz Sharif Meets Turkish President on UNGA sidelines
During the meeting, both sides discussed bilateral relations and cooperation in various other fields. They also emphasized the need to expedite efforts for a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip to promote regional peace and facilitate humanitarian aid for Palestinians.
Shehbaz Sharif praised President Erdogan’s address at the UN, where he effectively raised awareness of the Palestinian plight and condemned Israeli aggression.

Taking to X, formally known as twitter, Shehbaz Sharif said that they assured each other of our consistent and continued support on core interests, and also discussed regional developments, especially the situation in Gaza.
Speaking to the media afterward, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the support of friendly nations, including Turkiye, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and China, during challenging times.
He said that Pakistan has met all the requirements set by the IMF and highlighted that economic indicators are improving, with government policies beginning to yield positive results.
