Paris, 18 October 2022 (TDI): The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Hina Rabbani Khar, met the heads of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the French Senate and National Assembly in Paris on Monday.

The Minister met the President Foreign Affairs Committee of the French National Assembly, Jean-Louis Bourlanges at the French National Assembly.

She also met the President Commission for Foreign Affairs, Defense and Armed Forces of the French Senate, Christian Cambon at the French Senate.

Meeting Minutes

During the meeting with Jean-Louis Bourlanges, both parties discussed bilateral relations, parliamentary cooperation, and recent floods in Pakistan. Moreover, they also discussed climate change and other regional and global issues.

During the meeting with Christian Cambon, both sides discussed bilateral relations between both countries. Moreover, they also discussed the measures to increase cooperation between both countries.

The Minister extended an invitation to both Presidents to visit Pakistan to further strengthen parliamentary contacts and cooperation between the two countries.

Hina Rabbani Khar also met a group of French intellectuals and members of think tanks at the Pakistani Embassy in Paris.

The Minister informed the participants of the round table conference about Pakistan’s perspective on important national, regional and global issues.

Moreover, she also addressed the issues raised by the participants of the round table conference.

Pakistan-France bilateral relations

Pakistan and France established diplomatic relations at the time of Pakistan’s independence in 1947. Pakistan is its second export partner of France in South Asia.

The cultural relations between the countries are strengthened by the presence of three Alliance Francaise in Pakistan. They are in Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi.

The leaders of both countries agreed on mobilizing international support for Pakistan to help recover and rebuild its economy after the devastating floods at a meeting on the sidelines of the 77th session of UNGA.

France will also host an international conference before the end of the year aiming at contributing to the rehabilitation and reconstruction of flood-affected areas of Pakistan.
