Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary to Lead at 50th OIC CFM

Islamabad, 27 August 2024 (TDI): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary, Muhammad Syrus Sajjad Qazi, will represent the country at the 50th OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) session.

The session is scheduled to take place in Yaoundé, Cameroon, from August 29-30, 2024. He would address Pakistan’s stance on Gaza, Israel’s atrocities, the right of self-determination of Kashmir, and climate change among others.

Pakistan’s Stance on Key Issues

The Council of Foreign Ministers is the primary decision-making body of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). It comprises one representative from each OIC member state.

As the largest decision-oriented intergovernmental organization, it holds annual conferences, known as the Islamic Summit, to address issues concerning Muslim nations and the OIC’s agenda. This year, CFM’s session will be held at Yaoundé, Cameroon, from 29-30 August 2024

The official statement by MOFA announced that Foreign Secretary Qazi will lead Pakistan’s delegation at the significant diplomatic gathering. At the CFM, Foreign Secretary Qazi is expected to deliver a comprehensive presentation of Pakistan’s views on key global issues.

Foremost among these is the ongoing genocide in Gaza, where the humanitarian crisis continues to deepen. He will also address Israel’s increasing adventurism in the Middle East, which poses a serious threat to regional peace and stability.

In addition, the Foreign Secretary will reaffirm Pakistan’s support for the right to self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

He will emphasize the need for unity within the Muslim Ummah, it added. He would address the rising tide of Islamophobia and xenophobia in different parts of the world.

Global Challenges on the Agenda

Other topics on the agenda include global issues like climate change, terrorism, and other contemporary challenges. All these issues demand collective action from the international community, particularly the OIC member states.
