New York, 22 September 2021 (TDI): Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, participated in the ministerial meeting of D-8 on the sidelines of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Speaking on the occasion, the Foreign Minister stated that Pakistan is committed to the D-8 vision.
For this purpose, the country is undertaking various initiatives to achieve the objectives of the organization. During the meeting, the Foreign Minister mentioned the 8th D-8 summit held in Pakistan in 2012. He said that two landmark documents were adopted in that summit: D-8 Charter and Global Vision.
The Foreign Minister recapitulated the Five Point Roadmap of Prime Minister Imran Khan proclaimed in the 10th D-8 summit. This five-pronged agenda includes: mobilizing greater financial resources to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, expand intra-D8 trade from the current $100 billion to $ 500 billion in 2030, youth engagement, technological cooperation and collaboration in the health sector, food security, and natural disasters.
Furthermore, the Foreign Minister underscored the need for adoption of effective monitoring mechanisms to regulate the implementation of the D-8 Decennial Roadmap 2020-2030.
