Dakar, 17 March 2023 (TDI): Saima Maymunah Sayed, the appointed representative of Pakistan to Senegal, presented her credentials to Macky Sall, the President of the West African nation.
The presentation was held on Thursday at the Presidential residence in Dakar, Senegal. The formal ceremony, typically marking the start of a diplomatic mission, was executed with all the necessary protocols and solemnities.
The presentation of credentials is an established diplomatic practice to confirm the appointment of a new Ambassador and to formally request the recognition of the sending state by the receiving state.
Ambassador Sayed, as an official representative of Pakistan, is expected to work towards strengthening and deepening the cordial relations between Pakistan and Senegal, as well as promoting cooperation and collaboration in various fields of mutual interest.
While presenting her credentials to President Macky Sall, the Ambassador of Pakistan highlighted the bilateral ties between Pakistan and Senegal and affirmed to build of new partnerships in diverse fields.
On his part, President Macky Sall welcomed her and underscores to further strengthen the relations between the two countries.

Before presenting her credentials to the Senegalese President, on the 13th of March Ambassador Saima presented copies of her credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aissata Tall Sall.
During the meeting, both sides also discussed building bilateral ties and strengthening political, trade, and people-to-people ties between Pakistan and Senegal.
Before arriving in Senegal, Ambassador Saima met with the President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi, and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto to discuss the ways of advancing & key areas for possible collaboration in various fields with Africa in General and Senegal in particular.
During the meeting, President Dr. Arif Alvi underlined the need for enhanced cooperation with Senegal in the areas of trade, economy, and education.
He said that both countries had great potential to increase bilateral trade and economic relations for their mutual benefit.
He also added, “Pakistan considered Senegal an important country in the West African region and asked the Ambassador to make concerted efforts towards further expanding the bilateral ties, and arrange bilateral exchanges at the ministerial level between the two countries.”
Furthermore, President Arif Alvi asked the Ambassador to highlight and offer the Senegalese students to get benefit from the online and distance education being offered by the Virtual University (VU) and the Allama Iqbal Open University.
It is pertinent to note that some 8,000 foreign students were currently enrolled in different programmes at the VU of Pakistan.
