Tunis, 12 February 2022 (TDI): Pakistan’s Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Amjad Khan Niazi was on an official visit to Tunisia for discussions on bilateral military and strategic ties.

Naval Admiral Niazi met with Tunisian Minister of National Defence Immed Memmich and his counterpart Admiral Adel Jehane. Both countries agreed on bilateral coordination in various fields especially cooperation on building military and strategic security ties.

Admiral Amjad Khan Niazi also met with senior Tunisian navy officials and invited Admiral Jehane to visit Pakistan. He furthermore gave the Tunisian Navy the invitation to join the naval exercise named Aman to be held in 2023 in the Arabian sea.

Both sides also agreed to encourage the cooperation of both states in technical projects and collaborative training exercises. Pakistan’s Chief of Naval Staff pressed for boosting the coordination between the armed forces of both states along with the development of new technology.

Another meeting was held in Tunis between the Pakistani Chief of Naval Staff and the Tunisian Minister of Defence Immed Memmich. The chief discussed with the Defence Minister, the situation in South Asia. He briefed the Minister of Defence on the current uncertain situation in Afghanistan after the Taliban takeover.

In addition to this, the current relations between Pakistan and India with some highlights to the Kashmir issue were discussed too. Admiral Niazi briefed the Defence Minister about the tense ties between the South Asian neighbors due to the situation in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and how it can affect world peace and stability

The 3-days visit by Pakistan’s Chief of Naval Staff to Tunisia was the first of its kind. Admiral Amjad Khan Niazi also visited the Tunisian Naval Base and Naval Academy. The Naval Chief of the host country applauded the efforts of Pakistan Navy maritime peace and stability in the region.

The visit to Tunisia will strengthen the traditionally good ties between the two brotherly nations and will promote peaceful cooperation between the militaries of both states.
