Two Pakistani Projects Selected for British Council’s Climate Futures

Islamabad (TDI): The British Council has announced the recipients of its Climate Futures: South Asia program for 2025, including two outstanding projects from Pakistan selected to receive funding and international support.

Each of the Pakistani projects will receive a grant of GBP 15,000 to implement innovative, artist-led initiatives addressing climate change through cultural and community-driven solutions.

This unique program is designed to strengthen local responses to the climate crisis while encouraging collaboration between the UK and South Asia. Projects selected from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka will benefit from financial support, mentorship, and regional partnerships to tackle climate challenges through creative and sustainable practices.

From Pakistan, the selected projects include:

  • The Eco Block Tower by The Dawood Foundation’s MagnifiScience Center, which aims to raise awareness about ecosystems and climate change through an interactive and educational art installation.
  • Weaving Together: Local Art for Social Cohesion and Climate Resilience by Sarah Ather Khan at NED University, focusing on promoting environmental resilience in coastal communities through the revival of traditional arts and mangrove conservation.

“These grantees are leading the charge in using the power of art to confront the climate emergency,” said Jill Richens, British Council Regional Arts Director for South Asia. “We are thrilled to support projects that inspire communities to adapt, preserve, and innovate.”

James Hampson, Country Director at British Council Pakistan, echoed this commitment, stating, “By supporting these initiatives, we are helping safeguard cultural heritage, promote sustainability, and empower communities to take meaningful climate action.”

Across South Asia, the selected projects highlight a diverse range of approaches, from rewilding forests and preserving folk tales to empowering women through eco-storytelling and promoting sustainable crafts. These initiatives underline the growing role of the arts in building climate resilience, preserving biodiversity, and strengthening community ties.

As these projects progress, they will bring along a hopeful vision for a sustainable future; driven by innovation, tradition, and the enduring power of storytelling and art.
