Dushanbe, 16 September 2021 (TDI): The Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, met his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov. The meeting took place on the sidelines of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit.
Both Ministers agreed to further strengthen bilateral relationship. Other than cooperation on trade, investment, and defence, an increased engagement in energy sector and people-to-people relationship was agreed.
Pakistan Stream Gas Pipeline Project was also discussed and hopes were expressed for its early realization. For this purpose, an Inter-Government Commission on Trade/Investment will be set up in November this year.
The Russian Foreign Minister told that Russia will be increasing the number of scholarships dedicated to Pakistani students. Foreign Minister Qureshi appreciated this friendly gesture.
With Regards to Afghanistan, Foreign Minister Qureshi emphasized the urgency of humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan. He stressed the food and medical shortage in the war-torn country.
He also underscored the importance of the international community’s continued engagement with Afghanistan.
