Pakistani Foreign Minister met Prime Minister of Cambodia today.

Phnom Penh, 6 August 2022 (TDI): During his visit to Phnom Penh, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Foreign Minister of Pakistan called on Prime Minister of Cambodia, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, at the Peace Palace.

They met on the sidelines of the ARF Ministerial Meeting.

The Foreign Minister congratulated the Prime Minister on Cambodia’s leadership of ASEAN and of ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF). Moreover, he expressed Pakistan’s desire to further deepen cooperation with ARF and ASEAN.

Further, Bilawal Bhutto appreciated Pakistan’s friendly relations with Cambodia and conveyed Pakistan’s eagerness to strengthen bilateral ties and cooperation further.

He also assured Pakistan’s continued support to the Cambodian people through its Technical Assistance Program.

The Prime Minister of Cambodia expressed positive sentiments toward Pakistan and the desire for strong bilateral ties. Additionally, the Ministers agreed to intensify bilateral engagement and dialogue at all levels. They also discussed promoting cultural and people-to-people contacts.

Before that, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister also held meetings with his other counterparts on the sidelines of the 29th ARF Ministerial meeting. Also, he addressed the meeting on Friday and participated in discussions on political and security issues concerning Asia-Pacific.

Pak-Cambodia Relations

Pakistan and Cambodia marked 70 years of their relations this year.  In 2004, the two countries decided to foster multilateral relations for stability, peace, and security in regions of South Asia, Southeast Asia, as well as in the Asia Pacific.

Moreover, The Government of Pakistan promised to train a large number of Cambodian students at various Defense Forces Civil Aviation institutes in Pakistan.

In March 2022, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen met with Zaheeruddin Babar Thaheem, Ambassador of Pakistan to Cambodia.  They discussed issues concerning diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Cambodia.

Further, they agreed to focus and cooperate on economic, commercial, and investment sectors to improve the 70 years relationship between the two states.
