Pakistani Court Issues Arrest Warrant for KP CM

ISLAMABAD September 04, 2024 (TDI): A Pakistani court on Wednesday issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Ali Amin Gandapur, the Chief Minister of northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, following allegations of possessing weapons and alcohol.

The session court in the federal capital rejected Gandapur’s request for exemption from court appearance on medical grounds and has directed the SHO of Bara Kahu police station to arrest and present him in court by tomorrow.

The case, which dates back to October 30, 2016, involves allegations that Gandapur participated in an illegal gathering and violated orders issued by the District Magistrate.

The court is seeking clarification on several issues, including Gandapur’s presence at the scene and his actions during the incident.
Gandapur is a member of Jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, the party currently governing the restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Earlier today, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Faisal Karim Kundi urged Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to seek a vote of confidence from the provincial assembly, alleging that he no longer has a majority in the house.

In a press conference in Peshawar, Governor Kundi criticized the provincial government for failing to appoint Vice-Chancellors at universities, pointing out that the court had rejected the government’s authority on this issue.
