Pakistan wishes Finland on 106th Independence Day

Islamabad, 6 December 2023 (TDI): Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of Independence Day of Republic of Finland extended heartiest felicitations to the people and government of the country. 

The Independence Day celebrations across the country commemorates the Finland’s declaration of independence from the Russian Empire when the Bolsheviks took over in 1917. 

The country observes a national holiday along with blue and white colors dominating across the county representing the colors of the Finnish flag. 

Ambassador of Pakistan accredited to the Republic of Finland, Zahoor Ahmed, expressed heartiest congratulations to the government and people on the 106th celebration of Independence Day. 

The Ambassador added that Pakistan sees Finland as a developed country which has great interest in socio-economic development of other states. He also applauded the excellent education system of the country. 

He commented that Finland has always stood up for humanitarian values, human rights, and gender equality. 

The Ambassador said that is an excellent partner of Pakistan as both countries are collaborating in the field of education. Many Pakistanis are studying in universities in Finland and working with various research institutes of the country. 

Pakistan and Finland share friendly relations between each other with the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries in 1951. 

The Former President of Pakistan, Pervaiz Musharaf visited Finland in 2004, since then there were some meetings between the leadership of both sides on the sidelines of international events.

The two countries regularly engage in Bilateral Political Consultations with four rounds completed till date with the first one in 2014, second in 2016, third in 2017 and the most recent in 2019, both hosting each other alternatively. 

Pakistan and Finland are significant trading partners as main imports from Finland to Pakistan includes electrical and optical equipment, machinery, chemicals, industrial goods, agricultural products, telecommunications apparatus. 

Major exports of Pakistan include bed-wear, ready-made garments, sportswear, cotton fabrics, leather apparel and clothing, mangoes, carpets and floor coverings, rice.
