Pakistan Warns India of Fierce Response at UN

Geneva (TDI): A senior Pakistani diplomat has warned India that Pakistan will respond with “greater ferocity and resolve” if aggressed again as he drew attention of the United Nations Conference on Disarmament in Geneva to the recent hostilities between the two South Asian countries.

“South Asia does not need another crisis, it needs a future shaped by cooperation, not confrontation,” Ambassador Bilal Ahmad, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN offices in Geneva, told the 65-member forum established by the global community to negotiate arm control and disarmament deals.

He said that if New Delhi chooses the path of aggression again, the consequences and the responsibility will lie squarely at its door.

He warned that Islamabad is ready to meet any Indian aggression at every escalating level with greater ferocity and resolve.

The envoy added that Pakistan will adhere to the ceasefire, saying that it’s preference remains unchanged: constructive engagement, result-oriented talks, and the peaceful resolution of all major conflicts, including the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, in accordance with United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.

He stated that India’s threat and use of force against a nuclear-armed country poses a grave threat to strategic stability in the region.

Indeed, India’s missile, drone, and air strikes on Pakistan earlier this month were part of a larger pattern aimed at normalizing the idea that military attacks between nuclear-armed nations are acceptable, the envoy said.

He cited a growing list of destabilizing developments by New Delhi; India’s deployment of nuclear weapons at sea, its testing of anti-satellite weapons, and canisterization of missiles. These, he said, were “not contours of credible minimum deterrence but preparation to project power far beyond the region, the ambassador insisted.
