Pakistan, Uzbekistan Eye Stronger Trade and Tech Partnerships

Islamabad (TDI): Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, received Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Alisher Tukhtaev, to discuss the upcoming visit to Uzbekistan and explore new opportunities for strengthening bilateral cooperation.

The meeting, held in Islamabad, focused on translating the Prime Minister’s vision into action through closer collaboration in trade, investment, and technology. Both sides expressed interest in forging stronger ties across key sectors, with discussions highlighting the potential for formal agreements to boost economic engagement.

Among the priority areas discussed were increased trade cooperation, business-to-business (B2B) exchanges, and plans to establish a dedicated warehouse in Peshawar to support logistics and regional commerce.

The two also explored possibilities for joint ventures in agriculture, industrial manufacturing, transportation, mining, and minerals.

SAPM Haroon Akhtar emphasized Pakistan’s capacity for collaboration in tractor manufacturing and mining equipment, and underscored the importance of unlocking new opportunities to help both countries reach the $2 billion trade milestone.

He also noted that delegations from both sides are expected to meet soon to explore synergies in information technology, banking, and e-commerce.

Ambassador Tukhtaev, in turn, expressed keen interest in Pakistan’s textile and pharmaceutical sectors and invited Haroon Akhtar to visit Uzbekistan’s Techno Park.

Highlighting a major opportunity, Haroon Akhtar pointed out that Uzbekistan imports around $3 billion worth of pharmaceutical products annually, an area where Pakistan could become a reliable supplier.

Both sides agreed on the importance of cooperation in emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and digital commerce, recognizing their role in shaping the future of bilateral trade.

To conclude the meeting, SAPM Haroon Akhtar Khan presented a traditional souvenir to Ambassador Tukhtaev, a token of goodwill symbolizing the growing friendship and mutual respect between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.
