Pakistan, Uzbekistan Reaffirm Close Cooperation Across Sectors

Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan and Uzbekistan have reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation across political, parliamentary, and economic sectors.

Misbah Khar, Advisor to the Chairman Senate and Ambassador for the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC), met Senator Husan Ermatov of the Uzbek Senate, where both sides highlighted the deep-rooted ties between the two countries, grounded in shared history, culture, religion, and common values.

During the meeting, Misbah Khar emphasized that Pakistan places high importance on its growing relationship with Uzbekistan and expressed satisfaction with the positive momentum in bilateral ties.

She described Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to Tashkent as a landmark development that opened new avenues for cooperation. She noted that the signing of several memoranda of understanding, the establishment of a High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, and the adoption of a detailed roadmap with defined timelines marked major milestones in bilateral engagement.

Parliamentary cooperation was identified as a central pillar of Pakistan–Uzbekistan relations. Misbah Khar said such collaboration has gained renewed momentum following the successful Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference held in Islamabad under the leadership of Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani.

Both sides welcomed high-level parliamentary exchanges and active participation in international parliamentary forums, stressing their role in strengthening institutional linkages and promoting mutual understanding.

She also praised Uzbekistan’s development model as an example for the broader region.

Both sides welcomed the steady increase in bilateral trade and reaffirmed their shared goal of raising trade volumes to $2 billion in the coming years. Improved air connectivity, including the resumption of direct flights, was described as a key driver for boosting people-to-people and business ties.

Regional connectivity projects, particularly the Trans-Afghan Railway and multimodal transport corridors, were highlighted as transformative initiatives for regional integration and shared prosperity.
