Pakistan, Uzbekistan Explore Tourism Cooperation

Islamabad (TDI): The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, met with Uzbekistan’s Minister for Tourism, Umid Shadiev, in Islamabad.

The meeting underscored the growing warmth and strategic understanding between Pakistan and Uzbekistan, especially in the domain of tourism.

During the talks, both officials highlighted the enormous untapped potential for collaboration in tourism and cultural exchange between the two brotherly nations.

Haroon Akhtar Khan reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to deepen tourism ties with Uzbekistan, emphasizing that both countries share a rich history, heritage, and cultural affinity that can serve as a foundation for expanding people-to-people contacts.

He announced a major development, stating that under the vision and directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will soon begin international flights to Uzbekistan.

This direct air connectivity is expected to not only ease travel but also strengthen trade, tourism, and business links between the two countries.

He further noted that private airlines will also be encouraged to launch operations to Uzbekistan, providing additional options for travelers and expediting mutual exchange and cooperation in both trade and tourism sectors.

The Uzbek Minister for Tourism, Umid Shadiev, welcomed Pakistan’s proactive approach and appreciated the ongoing efforts to enhance bilateral relations.

He noted that both countries have already signed several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at fostering collaboration in diverse fields including tourism, hospitality, and cultural heritage preservation.

The meeting served as an important platform for both sides to reiterate their shared vision of developing cross-border tourism corridors, promoting joint ventures in the hospitality sector, and facilitating ease of travel for citizens of both nations.

The discussions also included ideas to develop cultural festivals, tourism exhibitions, and guided heritage tours to highlight the shared historical connections rooted in the ancient Silk Road.

As Central Asia emerges as a focal point for economic and cultural connectivity, Pakistan’s strengthening partnership with Uzbekistan offers promising new opportunities for both tourism development and economic growth.

Both sides expressed confidence that increased connectivity, direct flights, and joint initiatives will not only enhance tourism but also promote greater understanding and friendship between the peoples of Pakistan and Uzbekistan.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties committed to turning their shared vision into tangible outcomes.
