United Nations (TDI): Pakistan has warned that the ongoing war in Ukraine is eroding trust and threatening peaceful coexistence, calling on the international community to intensify efforts in conflict prevention and diplomatic dispute resolution.
Speaking to the 15-member UN Security Council on Monday, Pakistani Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad emphasized the importance of reviving the spirit of the Helsinki Accords and strengthening dialogue-based mechanisms.
“We must avoid confrontation, invest in diplomacy, and renew our commitment to Confidence and Security-Building Measures,” he said, referring to the principles reaffirmed by Security Council Resolution 2788.
Ambassador Ahmad highlighted Pakistan’s support for partnership with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), noting that cooperation with regional organizations can reinforce global stability under international law and uphold the UN-led multilateral system.

The Vienna-based OSCE, which celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act this year, was established to promote security and stability across a vast region from Vancouver to Vladivostok. Its core principles include respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, human rights, and peaceful resolution of disputes.
Addressing the Council, Ambassador Ahmad said that the OSCE faces a challenging geopolitical environment, with the four-year-long conflict in Ukraine straining trust and cooperation among nations.
“Comprehensive security is best preserved through cooperative measures, not through military domination or hegemony,” he added.
