Pakistan Unveils New Health Policy 2025-34

Islamabad, 28 August 2024 (TDI): An important step towards advancing Pakistan’s healthcare system, Dr. Malik Mukhtar Ahmad, Coordinator to Prime Minister on Health, along with Federal Health Secretary Nadeem Mahbub, and British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, launched the Health and Population Policy 2025-34. This inauguration marks a significant opportunity to reform the Health sector and build upon the achievements of the National Health Vision 2016-25.

This event was held to plan the future as key stakeholders gathered to check the progress made under the National Health Vision 2016-25. The policy will become the major instrument in guiding Pakistan’s Healthcare development with acceptable improvement in child health and maternal, disease control, and health infrastructure.

Dr. Malik Mukhtar Ahmed stressed the importance of the new Health and Population Policy, stating, “This policy starts the new chapter of inequality and equitable healthcare for Pakistani people.” Pakistan aims to address the growing health challenges of the future. It needs to plan with universal health coverage, population planning, and usage of modern healthcare technologies.

Federal Health Secretary highlighted that collective efforts were required in policy formation. It was formed with the help of national and international experts, civil society, and development partners, including the United Kingdom. British High Commission Jane Marriott showed courage in the UK’s continued help for Pakistan’s health sector. The UK feels proud to partner with Pakistan in its journey to a healthier and more prosperous future. The Health and Population Policy 2025-34 is a great achievement of our shared commitment to improving people’s lives through healthy solutions.

However, the Health and Population policy will handle the needs of Pakistan’s growing population, strengthening the health system, enhancing delivery methods, and assuring all citizens get equal and quality healthcare. A large number of people die due to a lack of facilities in hospitals onward this policy will serve as a blueprint for the country’s health sector and this will achieve national and international goals in healthcare.
