Abu Dhabi (TDI): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Ishaq Dar, is in the United Arab Emirates to co-chair the 12th session of Pakistan-UAE Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC). Last happened in 2013 in Islamabad, this ministerial-level framework is now resuming after 13 years.
The Pakistan-UAE Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) is a bilateral institution that was established in the 1980s to promote, coordinate and expand cooperation between the two countries in multiple sectors of mutual interests, especially economical, trade, investment and cultural.
The agenda for this session of JMC, happening today, is to deepen strategic, economic and development cooperation between the two countries. Traditionally, the JMC framework has focused on trade, investment, energy, labor and consular matters.

The UAE is Pakistan’s third-largest trading partner and geographical proximity makes it all the more convenient to expand trade. Since coming to power, the current government of Pakistan has focused on making trade relations more robust with friendly countries of the region.
The revival of JMC also comes in this context. According to an official statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on X, “The session will review progress across multiple domains of bilateral cooperation and explore new avenues for collaboration in trade, investment, energy, infrastructure development and IT.”
“The JMC serves as the highest institutionalised platform for bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and the UAE. The upcoming session will take forward the agenda of deepening strategic, economic and development cooperation between the two brotherly countries,” the statement added.

The session is expected to provide a crucial opportunity to both the countries to align their economic priorities and expand cooperation to mutually benefit from their exceptional partnership that will enhance development in key sectors.
The last session of the JMC brought together top officials and policy makers from both countries and also reaffirmed a shared commitment towards advancing and expanding bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interests and benefits.
