Pakistan, Turkmenistan Accelerate TAPI Gas Pipeline Project

Islamabad, 2 August 2024 (TDI): Pakistan and Turkmenistan have agreed to expedite the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, aiming to enhance regional connectivity and energy security. Federal Minister for Petroleum, Dr. Musadik Malik, met with Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister, Rashid Meredov, to discuss the project’s progress.

The TAPI gas pipeline, spanning 1,814 kilometers, will transport 33 billion cubic meters of gas from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan, Pakistan, and eventually India. The project is expected to reduce energy costs, promote industrial development, create jobs, and stimulate economic growth, aligning with Pakistan’s vision of a “Secure and Strong Pakistan”.

Dr. Musadik Malik emphasized the importance of reliable and affordable energy supply for industries, stating, “The TAPI gas pipeline project has made significant progress through mutual cooperation, aiming to promote economic harmony and energy security.”

Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister, Rashid Meredov, expressed his commitment to preparing a roadmap for cooperation with Pakistan. Muhammad Murat Amanov, CEO of TAPI Pipeline Company, acknowledged the significant progress made possible by the special interest of Pakistan’s Ministry of Petroleum and SIFC.

This project demonstrates the sustainable partnership between Pakistan and Turkmenistan, addressing regional energy shortages and promoting shared goals of stability and prosperity. SIFC’s strategic support has been instrumental in advancing regional connectivity, creating a conducive environment for a “Secure and Strong Pakistan”.
