Islamabad, 11 September 2024 (TDI): Pakistan is set to host the 23rd Meeting of Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Member States responsible for Foreign Economic and Trade Activities on Thursday in Islamabad.
The high-profile meeting will bring together ministers overseeing external trade and commerce from SCO member countries, and will be chaired by Pakistan’s Commerce Minister, Jam Kamal Khan.
The Ministerial gathering is the result of a series of preparatory meetings by the Commission of Senior Officials (CSO) of SCO Member States, which concluded in Islamabad on Wednesday.
The discussions will focus on enhancing regional cooperation in trade, sustainable development, and connectivity, with an aim to boost economic prosperity among SCO countries.
The outcomes of the meeting will be presented for approval at the upcoming Council of Heads of Government (CHG) meeting, scheduled for October 15-16, 2024, in Islamabad.

As the current Chair of the SCO Council of Heads of Government, Pakistan is hosting these meetings with a commitment to promoting deeper economic cooperation within the region, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Commerce.
The CHG, the second-highest forum in the SCO, addresses economic, trade, social, cultural, humanitarian, and budgetary matters of the organization.

The SCO, which represents nearly half of the world’s population and a significant portion of global GDP, is a vital cross-regional bloc.
Strengthening trade and economic ties within this framework is crucial to addressing shared challenges and unlocking vast economic opportunities.
