ISLAMABAD, (TDI): Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan has said that the government is working on enhancing the Ease of Doing Business to attract foreign investment.

Initiatives like the Pakistan Single Window have been launched to streamline the process for potential investors, allowing them to navigate various government departments more efficiently.

He was addressing the 40th anniversary celebration of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) as the chief guest. He emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting businesses and creating a thriving environment.

Minister said that effective government policies have reduced inflation and increased foreign reserves, leading to lower interest rates. The government is also actively working to reduce power tariffs, benefiting both the industry and exporters.

He highlighted that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif is personally addressing the issues faced by the business community, with a high-profile board established to tackle these challenges.

Every ministry is making concerted efforts to boost regional trade and explore new opportunities for exporters.

The government is revising the transshipment policy to enhance cross-border trade and position Pakistan as a regional business hub for Central Asia, South Asia, and the Middle East.

This initiative is expected to create jobs, attract foreign exchange, increase government revenue, and contribute to overall national development.

Khan praised the role of chambers in promoting trade and commerce, acknowledging ICCI’s significant contributions to economic progress over the past four decades.

In his welcome address, Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari, President of ICCI, reflected on the organization’s major milestones during his tenure and emphasized the importance of resolving community issues to foster a conducive business environment.

He urged for increased exports, skill training for youth, and the formulation of long-term economic policies for the country’s well-being.

Khalid Iqbal Malik, Chairman of the Founder Group ICCI, commended Bakhtawari for his leadership, which has elevated the chamber’s status in the country.

Zafar Bakhtawari, former President of ICCI, called for government recognition of business leaders’ achievements through excellence awards and encouraged youth to aspire to be job creators rather than job seekers.
