ISLAMABAD 29 August 2024 (TDI): Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Syrus Sajjad Qazi is leading a delegation at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Yaoundé, Cameroon, today, Thursday, to discuss Israel’s war in Gaza and the growing incidences of Islamophobia globally, reported state-run media.

The two-day event in Cameroon’s capital will see Pakistan actively participating in discussions that address critical issues affecting the Muslim world, such as the conflicts in Palestine and Kashmir, counterterrorism efforts, and the promotion of regional cooperation, economic development, and Islamic solidarity. Pakistan aims to collaborate with other member states to tackle shared challenges and opportunities.

“At the meeting, the foreign secretary will present Pakistan’s stance on the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the severe humanitarian crisis there,” reported state broadcaster Radio Pakistan on Wednesday.

Qazi will also emphasize the importance of solidarity and unity within the Muslim Ummah and address the rising cases of Islamophobia and xenophobia in various regions, as per Radio Pakistan.

The meeting will also cover other pressing global issues, including climate change and terrorism.

“On the sidelines, the foreign secretary will engage in bilateral discussions with his counterparts from participating OIC member states,” the state media added.

Israel has been conducting near-daily raids in the West Bank and Gaza since Hamas’s attack on October 7. Since then around 40,500 Palestinian, mostly women and children, were killed in Israeli bombings.

Israel’s ongoing military campaign has sparked global outrage and protests, with numerous countries calling for a ceasefire as the death toll continues to rise.

Pakistan, which does not recognize Israel or have diplomatic relations with it, continues to advocate for an independent Palestinian state based on “internationally agreed parameters” and the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
