Dushanbe (TDI): Pakistan and Tajikistan have agreed to broaden cooperation in multiple sectors including trade, investment, and regional connectivity during the sixth round of Bilateral Political Consultations (BPC), held in Dushanbe.

The Pakistani side was led by Additional Foreign Secretary for West Asia and Afghanistan, Syed Ali Asad Gillani, while Tajikistan was represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Farrukh Sharifzoda.

Both delegations reviewed existing collaboration and explored new opportunities in textiles, logistics, agriculture, food, and pharmaceuticals.

They also highlighted the importance of enhanced political, parliamentary, defense, and security ties, along with stronger cultural and educational exchanges.

A major focus of the talks was regional energy and transport connectivity. The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to the early launch of the CASA-1000 project, describing it as key to regional integration and energy security.

Defense and security cooperation was also on the agenda, with discussions covering counter-terrorism, training initiatives, and exchange of delegations.

On regional issues, the two sides shared perspectives on South Asia, including the situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the need for dialogue and adherence to the UN Charter in peaceful conflict resolution.

During his visit, the Pakistani Additional Secretary also held separate meetings with senior Tajik officials from the Ministries of Transport and Economic Development, as well as the Centre for Advanced Training of Diplomats. He visited the Panj Free Economic Zone and the commercial customs facility at Panji Payon.

The consultations were described as constructive and cordial. Both sides agreed to hold the next round of BPC in Islamabad in 2026.
