Pakistan-Tajikistan Joint Commission Discusses Trade Expansion

Islamabad (TDI): First Day of Pakistan-Tajikistan Joint Commission concluded with Important MoUs, Protocols and commitment to expand bilateral cooperation.

The event was hosted by Ministry of Economic Affairs on Wednesday.

Sardar Awais Leghari, Federal Minister for Power Division, and Jum’a Daler Shofaqir, Tajik Minister for Energy and Water Resources, co-chaired the session.

On Saturday, a business-to-business forum has been arranged for the businessmen of both nations in order to strengthen the B2B relations.

The meeting of JC started with remarks from Secretary Ministry of Economic Affairs Dr. Kazim Niaz.

He stressed on the strong historical, cultural, and geographical ties between the two countries.

He highlighted the significant cooperation potential in various fields.

Dr. Niaz also underlined the relatively low trade volume of 23.46 million dollars in past two years and emphasized to find more opportunities for trade.

In his opening remarks, Sardar Awais Leghari warmly welcomed the Tajik delegation, highlighting the longstanding, close, and cordial ties between Pakistan and Tajikistan.

He highlighted the historic relations, noting that Pakistan was one of the first nations to recognize Tajikistan’s independence in 1991, and stressed their shared religious, historical, and cultural bonds.

Leghari reiterated Islamabad’s commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation, especially in the fields of trade, energy, agriculture, education, and industry, where both nations have significant comparative advantages.

He stressed the significance of devising a Plan of Action to increase trade, end barriers, and set up a Joint Coordination Committee on Transit Trade under the Tajikistan-Pakistan Transit Trade Agreement.
