Moscow (TDI): In his address at the 24th meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of Government in Moscow, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar called for greater economic integration and broader cooperation among SCO member states.
He emphasized the need for the organization to evolve to tackle global and regional challenges by enhancing economic ties and expanding partnerships with observer and partner countries.
Ishaq Dar highlighted the SCO’s growing focus on economic collaboration, noting the importance of improved trade, infrastructure, and digital economies for sustainable development in the region. He expressed Pakistan’s commitment to contributing to disaster management by sharing its technology-driven disaster response system, as well as conducting simulation exercises with other member states to boost regional preparedness.

In his speech, Dar also proposed activating financial mechanisms like the SCO Interbank Consortium and advancing plans for an SCO Development Bank, which would support key projects in connectivity and technical cooperation. Furthermore, he advocated for expanding the SCO University Network to include a focus on applied knowledge, promoting student exchanges, and joint research in areas such as artificial intelligence, water management, and telemedicine.
Dar stressed that the SCO should not only focus on trade and economic growth but also enhance its humanitarian efforts. He called for an SCO that fosters greater connectivity, innovation, and collaboration among its member states, with a goal of creating a more interconnected and prosperous region.

He also welcomed the introduction of English as a working language and suggested creating translation units to expand the SCO’s global reach.
Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to strengthening regional ties and urged the SCO to position itself as a platform for shared success and sustainable progress in the coming years.
